How to enable Plain Text Password

Problem:

I need to enable plain text password in Windows XP Home to map to Y: drive. How do I do it?

Solution:

To enable plain text password in Windows XP Home, do the following:

Click Start.
Select Run.
Put in regedit in the field.
Click the plus next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
Click the plus next to System.
Click the plus next to CurrentControlSet.
Click the plus next to Services.
Click the plus next to LanmanWorkStation.
Click the plus next to parameters.
Right click on an empty space in the right window.
Select New.
Select DWORD Value.
Change the name of the new item called New Value #1.
Call it (exactly as it appears): EnablePlainTextPassword.
Right click on EnablePlainTextPassword.
Select Modify.
Value Data: = 1
Select Hexadecimal.
Click OK.
Select Registry.
Select Exit to close the Registry Editor window.
Restart your computer of the changes to take effect.
