4.定语和定语从句

4.1 什么是定语？

只要听到“…的+名词”，“…的”就是修饰这个名词的定语。

4.2 定语的成份？

(1) 形容词修饰名词(包括形容词性物主代词)
- 那只善良和执着的夜莺死了。
The naive and adamant nightingale lost his life.
The nightingale naive and adamant lost his life.

(2) 名词修饰名词
- 夜莺的歌声可以使这朵花开放。
The singing of the nightingale enables the rose to bloom.

(3) 介词短语修饰名词
- 窗外的夜莺听到了年轻人的感叹。
The nightingale out of the window heard the sigh of the youngster.

(4) 非谓语动词修饰名词
- 那只唱歌的夜莺死的很悲惨。
The singing nightingale died pitifully.

(5) 从句修饰名词（定语从句）

4.3定语的位置？

前小后大：一个单词通常放需要修饰的名词前面，两个以上的则通常放后面。

• 这是一个关于夜莺和玫瑰的故事。
  This proves a tale(fiction) with regard to a nightingale and a rose.

• 被拒绝的那个男生看起来很可怜。
  The declined boy looks pitiful.
  The boy declined looks pitiful.

  唯一的例外：过去分词修饰名词，通常放在名词后

• 在王子的舞会上，那个懂爱的年亲人被拒绝了。
  The youngster grasping romance was rejected at the party of the prince.

• 我只有一朵和大海的飞摩一样白的玫瑰花。
  A rose as white as foams of the sea proves available for me.

4.4 定语从句

(1) 定语从句构成
名词（先行词）+引导词+句子

(2) 引导词
定语从句的引导词可以按先行词的种类来分类，分成5类共8个如下：

• 先行词为人：who、whom、whose、that（正式文体不指人）

  that在正式文体中不指人

• 先行词为物：that、which、whose

• 先行词为时间：that、which、when

• 先行词为地点：that、which、where

• 先行词为原因：that、which、why

(3) 谁决定引导词的用法
Step 1： 找出先行词，按照先行词类型缩小选择范围；
Step 2：分析引导词在从句中能够充当的成分

定语从句的引导词还可以按引导词词性来分类

• 代词（必须充当从句主干成分）：who whom that which
• 副词（在从句中不能充当主干成分）：where when why
• 形容词（在从句中修饰离他最近的名词）：whose

• 夜莺用生命换来的玫瑰花被扔掉了。
  The rose that the nightingale exchanged with his life was discarded.
• 我喜欢家里有钱的男生。
  I am fascinated with boys whose parents are wealthy.
• 这个老人在他儿子到达的那天去世了。
  The senior citizen passed away on the day when his son arrived.

4.5 写作中定语和定语从句使用建议

只要在作文中见到名词都可以有意识的加上定语成分，把句子拉长。

• 养宠物能够减少孤独感。
  Raising pets can reduce loneliness.
  Raising pets cute as well as smart can reduce loneliness of senior citizens without any descendants taking care of them.
• 读书可以开拓视野。
  Reading books which are benefitcial to physical and mental health can broaden eyesight of all childen and adults.
