This is really instersting question, the Linux system like Debian is the project founder Murdock Ian and his wife Debra’s name initials.

The Debian take the Debra Deb letter, plus the formation of Ian.

So, the important thing, how to read this name?

Debian

The Debian system is [‘dɛbɪrn] and it read like Chinese Pinyin [‘di bian’].

CentOS

The CentOS system name made of Cent and OS, the name “Cent” in English is a name of unit, like “30 cent” can buy a rice, or the bank’s profits plunged by “87 per cent”(87%), so we can read the name like [sɛnt].

Ubuntu

The openSUSE system, ok, this is very simple, you just have to know, the name SUSE is a company name, this company sponsored the development of openSUSE, and the SUSE we can read like [‘suːsə’], in Chinese Pinyin is [‘su sai’].

Kali
