Data Binding & Espresso: IllegalAccessError: Class ref in pre-verified class resolved to unexpected

You can turn off class verification using following commands:
adb shell setprop dalvik.vm.dexopt-flags v=n,o=v
adb shell stop installd
adb shell start installd

It works on an emulator, I do not have real API < 21 device to test it.
