Chris Kyle Demaryius Thomas Jersey case brings extra attention to Texas county

ERATH COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) The lone movie theater in the city of Stephenville sits near the edge of town and has just six screens. And like almost every other theater in the country, American Sniper is currently the main attraction.

But unlike anywhere else, just a few miles from the theater another scene to Chris Kyle's story is unfolding. Not on a movie Womens Demaryius Thomas Jersey screen, but in a real life courtroom.

"There has been a lot of preparation from law enforcement and the city," said restaurant owner Phil Greer. His restaurant sits on the county courthouse square and shares a door with the Erath County Justice Center where Eddie Ray Routh is being tried for the murder of Kyle and Chad Littlefield.

As the day for trial approached and media attention turned its gaze upon the county of 40,000 people, one employee at Greer's Ranch Cafe asked Greer if safety was going to be an issue. A pink wristband was Karl Mecklenburg Broncos Jersey the solution.

"If somebody needs to receive a delivery or go out the back door, then the wristband is needed," said Greer. Officers surrounded the blocked off streets around the courthouse were handing out the wristbands to employees who work nearby as a way to identify who belongs in the area and who does not.

They found a way to protect their people and they believe they will find a way to protect their justice system.

Even though attention will come from across the globe, the victims, the defendant, the judge, the attorneys, and the eventual jurors are all local. And whatever justice is administered will reflect the values of the Karl Mecklenburg Jersey community where the alleged crime took place. Routh's defense attorneys have said publicity from American Sniper and "Chris Kyle Day" in Texas have made it too difficult to find a fair and impartial jury.

With their love of cowboys and country, it is easy to see why Kyle would be a revered figure in the town where he once studied agriculture at Tarleton State University before he became a Navy SEAL sniper. But that love of country is exactly why Susan Birchfield, the owner at the Blue Eyed Buffalo furniture store, believes no bias will be shown.

"We are very patriotic here," said Birchfield. "We believe everybody deserves a fair trial."

Judge Jason Cashon is trying to make that happen. A court clerk said typically summons 175 people for a jury trial, but 800 summonses were sent for Routh's jury selection. The hope is to have 12 jurors and two alternates seated for opening arguments on Wednesday morning and although pre trial publicity is concern during selection, the judge said someone who has seen American Sniper will not automatically be disqualified.

The judge also issued an order restricting media coverage inside the courtroom for much of the trial, but opening arguments will be open to broadcast.
