NWPA Update Package Installation Instructions for NetWare 4.11

For new NetWare 4.11 servers:

From the website at

http://developer.novell.com/devres/storage/drivers/index.html

click on the

Update Your NetWare 3.12 or 4.11 Server to Work With NWPA

link and download the NWPA Update Package (

NWPA_UP.EXE

) at the

NWPA Update Package

link and the installation instructions (this file) from the

NWPA Update Package Installation Instructions for NetWare 4.11

link on the same page.

Install DOS and the CD-ROM driver on the target server machine.

Create the

C:\UPDATE

directory.

Copy

NWPA_UP.EXE

C:\UPDATE

Enter the following commands at the DOS prompt:

c:
cd \update
nwpa_up -o

If you have any new

.HAM

.LAN

drivers, or those whose versions are later than those already on the NetWare 4.11 CD-ROM, copy those files, plus their

.DDI

and

.LDI

files, to

C:\UPDATE

as well.

Insert the NetWare 4.11 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive and the NetWare 4.11 License diskette into the floppy drive.

Change directory to the

D:\

directory on the CD-ROM, if its drive letter is

D:

Install NetWare 4.11 by entering

install

at the DOS command line. Proceed through a Custom installation of NetWare 4.11 as usual. When the installation program prompts you to add any special startup set commands to

STARTUP.NCF

, add the following lines after those already present:

load c:\update\nwpa
load c:\update\nbi
load c:\update\idehd
load c:\update\idecd
load c:\update\scsihd
load c:\update\scsicd
load c:\update\ideata port=1f0 int=e
load c:\update\ideata port=170 int=f

When prompted by the installation program to select a storage or LAN driver to install, select it from the

C:\UPDATE

directory.

After all desired storage and LAN drivers have been selected, select Use the CD-ROM to get drivers, then continue the installation by creating NetWare partitions and volumes as needed.

When prompted by the installation program to edit

AUTOEXEC.NCF

, add the following lines after those already present:

load c:\update\cdrom
cd mount xxxxx

If you know the ISO9660 name of your CD-ROM volume, replace the xxxxx with that name.

Press <F10> to save the

AUTOEXEC.NCF

file and begin the Main Copy to proceed and complete the NetWare 4.11 installation.

Remove the NetWare 4.11 CD-ROM and the NetWare 4.11 License diskette.

Enter

down

and then

restart server

at the server console to reboot the server.

For currently installed NetWare 4.11 servers:

click on the

Update Your NetWare 3.12 or 4.11 Server to Work With NWPA

link and download the NWPA Update Package (

NWPA_UP.EXE

) at the

NWPA Update Package

link and the installation instructions (this file) from the

NWPA Update Package Installation Instructions for NetWare 4.11

link on the same page.

Create the

C:\UPDATE

directory.

Copy

NWPA_UP.EXE

C:\UPDATE

Enter the following commands at the DOS prompt:

c:
cd \update
nwpa_up -o

If you have any new

.HAM

.LAN

drivers, or those whose versions are later than those already on your server, copy those files plus their

.DDI

and

.LDI

files, to

C:\UPDATE

as well.

Change directory to the

C:\NWSERVER

directory.

Edit

STARTUP.NCF

and add the following lines after any set parameters but just before any lines that load drivers:

load c:\update\nwpa
load c:\update\nbi
load c:\update\idehd
load c:\update\idecd
load c:\update\scsihd
load c:\update\scsicd
load c:\update\ideata port=1f0 int=e
load c:\update\ideata port=170 int=f

Add or replace subsequent lines of the

STARTUP.NCF

file to load new or updated

.HAM

and

.LAN

drivers from the

C:\UPDATE

directory, delete all other lines that load drivers, save the file, and exit to DOS.

Enter

server

to start the server.

At the server console enter

load install

Edit

AUTOEXEC.NCF

, and replace the line to load

CDROM.NLM

with the following lines:

load c:\update\cdrom
cd mount xxxxx

If you know the ISO9660 name of your CD-ROM volume, replace the xxxxx with that name.

Enter

down

and then

restart server

at the server console to reboot the server.
