这两个表现方法，都是表达目的。“lest…should”的用法较古，且带有否定的意思。现在多用”for fear that”来代替了，也可能用in case…should来表达，只不过在现代口语中，常把should省去不用，只用动词原型。如：Take care lest you fall，当心不要跌倒。 “that….may”也有古文的味道， “in order that…may”则是现在的表达方法。So as not to…也很普遍。

“Had better+原形不定式”
“would rather+原形不定式”

第一句有劝告的意思，译为：最好如何如何，有时也可以说成had best。第二句有选择的意思，译为宁肯，二者不可混，如果加上了than，这个意思就更明显了。
