Setting up and using the Rational Data Architect - Rational ClearCase integration

Rational Data Architect version 6.1 is shipped with the Rational ClearCase SCM Adapter version 6.0.23 and RDA 7.0
ships with version 7.0 of the adapter.

Setting ClearCase MVFS Options

Click Start -> Control Panel

Double-click ClearCase

Click MVFS tab

Enable Case Insensitive MVFS

Enable Case Preserving

Click Apply

Click OK

Enabling the ClearCase SCM Adapter

Start RDA

Click Windows -> Preferences

Expand Workbench

Select Capabilities

Expand Team

Please a check in the ClearCase SCM Adapter to enable this capability

Click Apply

Click OK

Enabling the ClearCase Menu(Not necessary for version 7.0)

Click Window -> Customize Perspective...

Click the Commands tab

Place a check in ClearCase and click OK

Disabling the Diff Merge Patterns

Click Window -> Preferences

Expand Team

Expand ClearCase SCM Adapter

Select Diff Merge Patterns

Uncheck the check next to the *

Click Apply

Click OK



Note: If you are a user working in a team development environment and the project is already under source control, skip to the Subsequent Team Access to Controlled Projectssection.

Adding Projects to Source Control

Select the project in the Data Project Explorer

Right-click

Click Team -> Share Project

Select the ClearCase SCM Adapter

Click Next

Note:
If you are not already connected to Rational ClearCase you will be prompted to connect to Rational ClearCase.

Click Browse... and browse to the VOB through the view
example: M:/view_name/vob_name dynamic view
example: C:/Documents and Settings/view_name/vob_name snapshot view

Click Finish

Click OK on the Add Elements(s) to Source Control dialog

Subsequent Team Access to Source Controlled Projects

Click File -> Import

Select Existing Project into Workspace and click Next



Click Browse... and select the project by browsing to the VOB through the view
example: M:/view_name/vob_name/project_name dynamic view
example: C:/Documents and Settings/view_name/vob_name/project_name snapshot view

Click Finish

Note: If the ClearCase SCM Adapter capability was not enabled prior to the import, you will see a Confirm Enablement dialog.



Click OK

Click ClearCase -> Connect to Rational ClearCase

Note:
If you do not see the ClearCase menu, refer to the Enabling the ClearCase Menu section of this document.

All ClearCase functions will be performed at the file level and not the element level. To perform a ClearCase function such as Check Out, follow these steps:

Select the model file
example: *.ldm

Right-click and select Team

Click the desired ClearCase function

Model Merges with the Integration

You will be prompted for a merge if you Check In a model file that contains a conflicting change against the selected version.

Click Yes





Note:
DO NOT enable Merge the file graphically. If user input is needed due to a nontrivial merge, RDA will bring up the merge editor.

Use the Next Difference button to navigate through the differences



Use the Copy from Right to Left button to accept the remote difference



Note: The Merged Column represents the local copy. AttributeB is the local change and AttributeA is the remote change.

Close the merge editor by clicking the "x"

Click Yes to save the merge result
